We are looking for a Senior Scientist who is innovative and agile to join us in ourNeuroinflammation Teambased in Braine, Belgium.
About the role
This is an exciting and high visibility role for an experienced Neuroimmunologist to join the Target Discovery and iPSC team in the Neuroinflammation Focus Area. The ideal candidate will be passionate about lab science and the generation of translational data, have an in-depth knowledge of microglia and peripheral immune involvement in neuroimmune, neurodegenerative and/or autoimmune disease as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications.
Who you’ll work with
In this laboratory-based position, you will work closely with other teams within the Neuroinflammation Focus Area and align with key stakeholders across UCB’s research sites to define experimental approaches, specific studies, and priorities. You will also manage external collaborations with academic labs, CROs and biotech partners, and will represent the Neuroinflammation team by proposing new drug targets and providing updates on projects to UCB leadership/governance.
What you’ll do
The candidate will work side-by-side with the team on target ID, validation, and driving the biology strategy from hit ID to candidate selection. He/she is expected to have hands-on involvement in experimental work, coordinate/prioritize activities together with his/her team, act as the neuroinflammation biology representative to the various neuroinflammation pre-clinical projects, and drive target ID and validation initiatives together with internal and external collaborators.
One of the key goals of this position will be to expand the teams’ capabilities from monoculture iPSC systems into more complex co-culture, 2D and 3D cellular systems, to establish these assays within the team to aid in target validation.
Interested? For this role you’ll need the following education, experience and skills
- MSc in a relevant scientific discipline.
- Some experience is pharma is desirable.
- You will be energetic, passionate to make a difference, self-driven and an independent thinker.
- Experienced working with iPSC cells and gene editing approaches including CRiSPR, siRNAs and lentiviral tools is essential.
- Poses an understanding of the neuroimmunology field.
- Experience using flow cytometry, deep sequencing and working with microglia would be beneficial.
