Make your mark for patients
UCB is an international biopharmaceutical company primarily engaged in the research, development, and commercialization of pharmaceutical and biotechnological products. It specializes in researching therapeutic solutions for patients suffering from severe diseases, treated by specialists, particularly in the fields of the central nervous system (including epilepsy) and inflammation (including allergies).
The Braine-l'Alleud site specializes in chemical synthesis, development, manufacturing, and packaging of pharmaceutical products.

As part of the development of new pharmaceutical formulations, we are looking for a VIE with a background in organic chemistry and a strong interest in modeling. The mission involves testing and validating the use of in silico prediction software (such as COSMO-RS, amofor, or equivalent) to anticipate the solubility of active pharmaceutical ingredients in different polymer matrices, solvents (for spray drying), and lipid excipients (for lipid-based formulations). The project combines experimental laboratory work and numerical simulations in order to optimize the selection of polymers, solvents, and lipids, and to improve formulation stability.
Mission
As part of the development of new pharmaceutical formulations, you will contribute to optimizing the selection of polymers, solvents, and lipid excipients by combining computational modeling with experimental validation. Your role will be to test and validate the use of in silico prediction software (such as COSMO-RS, amofor, or equivalent) to anticipate the solubility of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and improve formulation stability.
Main Responsibilities
- Perform solubility predictions for API–polymer, API–solvent, and API–lipid systems using modeling software (COSMO-RS, amofor, or equivalent).
- Design and carry out laboratory experiments to validate modeling results.
- Investigate API dissolution in solvents (for spray drying) and lipid excipients (for lipid-based formulations).
- Interpret and synthesize results to guide the selection of polymers, solvents, and lipids.
- Collaborate closely with the development team to integrate findings into formulation processes.
- Contribute to scientific reporting and communicate results to project teams.
Profile
- Degree: Master’s in Organic Chemistry or a related discipline.
- Specialization: Organic chemistry, molecular modeling.
- Languages: French is a plus (working language), English (scientific reading).
Key Skills:
- Strong scientific rigor and analytical mindset.
- Interest and proficiency in molecular modeling and computational simulations.
- Ability to design and execute laboratory experiments.
- Team-oriented with strong communication skills.
- Curiosity and motivation to contribute to pharmaceutical formulation innovation.
Please note that this program is in partnership with Business France, and we follow the prerequisites required by Business France to carry out a VIE assignment. The main participation prerequisites are as follows:
- Be between 18 and 28 years old;
- Hold the nationality of a member country of the European Economic Area;
- Have not worked or lived in the country where the mission will take place;
- Be available to dedicate yourself to the mission full-time;
- If you have French nationality or dual nationality, be in compliance with the national service obligations of France (Numéro Identifiant Défense);
- Have a clean criminal record.
If you do not meet all these conditions, we will not be able to consider your application.
