Job Description
SGS, the world’s largest inspection, verification, testing, and certification company, is looking for a Senior Systems Engineer (Functional Safety) to join our team. This role can be based in New Plymouth, Hamilton or Central North Island
What will you be doing:
- You’ll provide consulting services to a diverse range of clients, guiding them through the functional safety and alarm management lifecycles.
- You’ll be involved in automation systems projects, tackling both brownfield and greenfield sites, and working with legacy as well as modern digital control and safety technologies.
- Whether collaborating with other talented professionals or working independently, you’ll use client-supplied information—including Scopes of Work, Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams, Functional Descriptions, and I/O lists—to develop and modify control systems that meet project needs.
- While the role is mostly office-based, you’ll also have opportunities to engage in site work, such as inspections, audits, site acceptance testing, and commissioning, depending on project scope and client requirements.
Your primary focus will be delivering functional safety services, including:
- Functional Safety Management
- Functional Safety Assessments and Audits
- Layer Of Protection Analysis and SIL determination
- SIF design and SIL verification
Additionally, you’ll support clients with alarm management throughout the lifecycle, including:
- Alarm system management
- Documentation and rationalization
- Bad actor identification and management
- Alarm system audits
Qualifications
- A degree in Control Systems Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5 to 10 years of relevant work experience
- Functional Safety qualifications (Exida, TUV, ISA)
