Job Description
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Environmental Monitoring Microbiologist to oversee environmental monitoring and microbiological testing in a controlled manufacturing environment. This role combines hands-on laboratory responsibilities with leadership duties, including team support, training, and process coordination. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills, organizational abilities, and a commitment to upholding compliance and quality standards.
Laboratory Responsibilities
- Perform all duties associated with the Quality Control Microbiology Analyst role.
- Conduct environmental monitoring and compressed gas sampling in controlled environments.
- Collect water and clean steam samples from manufacturing systems.
- Manage laboratory support functions, including inventory control of supplies, media, and reagents.
- Prepare and complete laboratory investigation reports.
- Utilize the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) for sample tracking and test result documentation.
- Schedule routine tasks on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis.
- Maintain a strong work ethic and meet physical requirements, including:
- Lifting objects of 25 lbs. or more.
- Walking and standing for extended periods.
- Pushing/pulling carts and equipment.
- Bending and reaching for supplies.
Leadership Responsibilities
- Support and monitor the performance of a team of analysts.
- Participate in new hire interviews and assist with onboarding processes.
- Train and mentor team members.
- Conduct peer reviews of data to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Coordinate equipment maintenance and calibration activities.
Cleanroom Requirements:
- Position requires significant time spent in cleanrooms with the following restrictions:
- No cosmetic products (such as makeup, false lashes, etc) are permitted and must be removed prior to entry
- Nails must be kept short, trimmed, and unadorned (no nail polish, adornments, etc)
- No jewelry may be worn, (exceptions are medical alert related and one smooth ring band)
- Hair must be able to be neatly tied back and contained in a hairnet and all facial hair must be neatly trimmed and able to be secured in a beard cover.
Qualifications
The Ideal Candidate would possess:
- 0-2 Years of cGMP experience
- Strong computer, scientific, and organizational skills
- Excellent communication (oral and written) and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, self-motivation, adaptability, and a positive attitude
- Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, keep accurate records, follow instructions, and comply with company policies
- Experience with LIMS preferred
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, or other science-related degree concentration, and 2-4 years of related experience
- 0-1 year of previous leadership experience
- Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship
Additional Information
The position is full-time, second shift Sunday through Wednesday, 12:30pm-11:00pm. Candidates must be flexible to adapt to schedule changes requiring shift changes and/or weekend work, and overtime may be required as needed. Candidates living within a commutable distance of Rensselear, New York, are encouraged to apply.
