Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and technically confidentElectrical Engineer to join our Electrical Engineering Services (EES) team based in Malaga. This role is suited to an engineer with hands on experience in HV/LV testing, commissioning, and condition monitoring, who enjoys field based work and solving real world power system issues.
You will work closely with senior engineers and operational leaders to deliver specialised electrical testing, commissioning, maintenance, and diagnostic services across a wide range of client sites in mining, utilities, heavy industry, and critical infrastructure.
Key responsibilities include, however are not limited to:
Perform high and low voltage electrical testing and commissioning in accordance with relevant standards and client requirements.
Conduct transformer testing including insulation resistance, winding resistance, TTR, power factor (tan-delta), SFRA, excitation current and ancillary device verification.
Carry out HV cable diagnostics including VLF, Tan Delta, and partial discharge (PD) testing and reporting.
Perform protection relay testing (primary and secondary), configuration, and support fault studies and grading coordination.
Conduct thermography, corona and acoustic inspections, and condition monitoring assessments.
Undertake earth grid testing including fall-of-potential, continuity, and step/touch voltage assessments.
Test, troubleshoot and maintain switchgear, circuit breakers (air, vacuum, SF6, oil), HV safety equipment, and associated substation assets.
Interpret and work from single line diagrams, test records, and technical documentation.
Support operational planning, mobilisation of equipment, and coordination of site-based project activities.
Ensure safe work practices are applied at all times in line with SGS procedures and statutory requirements.
Qualifications
To be successful in the role you will have:
Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering.
Demonstrated experience in HV/LV electrical testing, commissioning, maintenance, or power system diagnostics.
Practical knowledge of HV assets such as transformers, HV cables, switchgear, circuit breakers, protection systems, and substations.
Ability to interpret electrical drawings, single line diagrams, and technical manuals.
Strong written communication skills with the ability to produce high quality technical reports.
Capability to assist the Business Manager, Project Engineer and Senior Engineer with planning, coordination, and delivery of multiple projects.
Strong commitment to safety and compliance when working on live plant, industrial sites, and HV environments.
Willingness to travel to client sites and undertake field-based work.
Highly regarded:
Experience using Omicron, Doble or equivalent HV diagnostic equipment.
Experience performing protection relay testing or HV cable condition assessments.
Knowledge of relevant Australian Standards and utility requirements.
