Role description
Play a key role delivering tech sector mega-projects.
Reporting to the DCE Program Director, the Mechanical Subject Matter Expert (SME) will drive reviews, coordinate and provide key technical input during site due diligence, detailed design and/or construction administration phases of the data centre project.
This position will collaborate and manage internal and external resources for the design review, coordination ensuring compliant delivery of discipline-specific systems aligning with Client and site-specific requirements.
Role Accountabilities
As the Subject Matter Expert (SME), the candidate provides key input to other organizations and stakeholders and is responsible for leading and/or contributing to workgroups with representatives from AE firms, other disciplines and other key stakeholders within The Client Datacenter. This position requires a detailed understanding of data centre mechanical design, controls and operational experience.
The SME will be responsible for:
- Design review and compliance audit related to data centre projects including new construction, expansions, retrofits and upgrades and standards upgrades globally.
- Critical assessments of designs and decisions and support in applying the required standards and country-specific regulations to make the best design choices.
- Engage with external design consultants, run design review workshops to ensure they deliver a design to meet the requirements of the Basis of Design (BOD).
- Collaboration with Global Technical Excellence team, Global Strategy team and DC Operations teams to support development of data centre designs from Basis of Design (BOD) to Issue For Construction (IFC) and through the Construction Administration phase of the datacentre until handover for new project build outs.
- Collaboration with internal and external customers, lead the review and compliance audit direction of the mechanical designs to oversee the delivery of multiple, concurrent, ensure data centre design solutions aligned with scopes, schedule and budgets of the projects.
- Supporting requests, liaise with customers to support the development and review of specific project design requirements, liaise and collaborate with other Client engineering teams and Operations providing support as and when required for new and existing data centres.

Qualifications & Experience:

- Minimum of bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field.
- Ideally Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartership but not essential
- 5-7 years data centres or related industry experience
- Technical understanding of mission critical environments.
- In-depth knowledge of design, operation and maintenance of building cooling and related mechanical systems (HVAC, Chilled Water, DX Refrigerant, Evaporative, and related controls systems).
- Ability to collaborate with and contribute to team of engineers in advanced engineering and operational processes and procedures as they relate to large data centre environments.
