Job Title - Lead Technician, Process Mechanic

Job Summary
As a key member of the Facilities engineering team, the Facilities Lead Technician, Process Mechanic is responsible for working with and leading day-to-day maintenance technicians in all areas of site maintenance. The lead facilities technician, Process mechanic, is responsible for ensuring monthly maintenance plans are delivered in a safe and compliant manner to ensure that equipment availability/reliability is optimized. This will involve building relationships and working closely with Manufacturing Operations, Scientist, engineering, automation, equipment suppliers, and contractors.
Essential Job Functions
- Accomplishes objectives with a great deal of autonomy.
- Provides preventive and corrective maintenance, repairs, and installations of manufacturing/facility/utility systems of biopharmaceutical manufacturing and development equipment.
- Learns and understands corporate specifications and site Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) governing operations
- Monitors assigned equipment and communicates with manufacturing to reduce downtime
- Provides a high level of troubleshooting ability to repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
- Reviews current Preventive Maintenance (PM) schedules, verifies parts are in stock, and completes PMs on time
- Builds and rebuilds machine assemblies
- Communicates equipment issues and work status to supervisors, manufacturing, and management per the plant’s Stop and Fix guidelines
- Initiate review and close work orders using the Maximo CMMS system
- Performs PM work and assigns work related to GMP, GLP, and R&D equipment when work is required to maintain equipment reliability and efficiency; ensures proper and timely completion of the related documentation
- Notes in CMMS or other downtime tracking method any problems, breakdowns, or alarms related to all equipment; initiates work orders, and provides additional documentation required to resolve issues; reviews equipment trends related to the issues and supports efforts to eliminate recurring problems
- Shares knowledge and trains less experienced technicians in the site process and all related equipment, including safety, 6S, and PMs associated with the facility
- Learns to handle robots in all normal production modes; troubleshoots and identifies problems related to robots, machine output and quality defects as they occur
- Improves their knowledge and skill set through additional training
- Solicit help from Lead engineers and management assistance when needed
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Prior experience working in an FDA-regulated environment preferred
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in support of manufacturing
- Ability to read and understand electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic drawings
- Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
- Willingness to develop strong troubleshooting skills
- Willingness to develop a good understanding of programmable logic controllers (PLC)
- Must be able to work with limited supervision; have strong teamwork and communication skills, both oral and written; good documentation skills and practices; strong computer skills; focus on the customer; strong proponent of working safely and effectively under stressful conditions
- Skilled in MS Word, MS Excel, and Maximo or similar CMMS
- The desire to broaden knowledge and improve skill level is imperative
- Must be willing and able to work overtime, backing up other shifts, working weekends, off hours, and during plant shutdowns, to fully support production
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required, technical certifications, a boiler room operator's license is a plus
- Associates degree in a technical discipline or above a plus
- 3 - 5+ years manufacturing systems experience preferred
- 2+ years of manufacturing systems experience with an Associates degree
- Physical requirements include stooping, standing, walking, climbing stairs/ladders, and the ability to lift/carry reasonable heavy loads such as 50lbs. or more (exact load limit will depend on staff safety procedure documents developed by EHS).
